It doesn't make any sense to me that a wild animal would choose the city life over a country one, but one such animal - an owl - has chosen as his or her home ground a small city park in Tulsa. Sure, it has sheltering trees, an excellent water source, and probably abundant rodent and small bird life. But the negatives of people and noise and traffic would seem to outweigh the positives.
At any rate, each morning for three mornings (in the pre-dawn dimness), we caught tantalizing glimpses of this owl. Each time the sightings were at or near the pond in the park. My husband got a good view of the owl, sitting low in a tree, just before Ike's warning bark disturbed it. Every other time we saw the bird in flight, skimming low between the trees, its perfectly designed feathers making no sound.
