It was a strange feeling this morning, opening the hall closet door and reaching for an actual, certified coat after so many warm mornings and sweltering days. My trusty Carhartt coat, to be exact. A coat I bought about twelve years ago at Sharpe's on the main street of our little town. It started out a deep brick hue but has faded to the color of dried red dirt (perfect for Oklahoma). It felt kind of wonderful. A brisk breeze, hands into pockets, wishing I'd pulled on a stocking cap instead of my sun hat.
We are at the cusp of one of the two best months here. I love October and I welcome its arrival with coat-covered arms.
Critter report: The beautiful garden orb spider that set up shop right next to our door laid her first egg sac overnight. She was busy securing it all morning and now she is resting right on top of it. Good mother.
