We took a slightly different path this morning, even though the notion of paths is quickly fading as the grasses grow and grow and grow... Nevertheless, we could just make it out and in our high boots we picked our way along. We discovered that the pathway had been repopulated with a different kind of grass than the last time we'd walked along it. Stiff, spiky, bright green, with a cluster of buds at the top. It must like water and marshy ground as this is the part of the pasture that's been under water for months. And along the way, I spotted a flower I'd never seen before. It's leaves and stems looked very similar to a carnation. The red-purple flower wasn't yet fully open, but its deep color glowed against the backdrop of grass. I will have to try to identify once I can see the flower in full bloom.
At about 4:00 this morning I heard far off thunder. To the south, a storm was passing over Ardmore on its way east. Our morning was without rain, bright and cool, with a thin blanket of clouds whose soft edges caught the light of the rising sun.
