This morning to the east, over McAlester, a massive gray and gold-flecked thunderhead rose up in the sky along with the sun. Two cigar-shaped clouds sailed in front of it, intent on a mission of their own (that remains unknown to us). By the end of our walk, the thunderhead had drifted into a pale, thin veil spread across most of the sky.
Then the heat descended and by 1:00 pm all of us were napping in cool, dark places. The local weather alert service warns us of a tornado watch until late this evening. It's been fitful and unsettled outside all day with big, puffy clouds of varying hues of gray (that somehow offer no shade) and wind-tossed trees. We will allow the day to cool just a little before venturing out for the last walk of the day. With the wind and rain will come cooler temperatures for the next several days. It is [probably] worth the wrath of the storm to receive the relief.
