Unfortunately, I chose the wrong lenses this morning. I almost grabbed the 55-300mm, but decided on the 10-24mm for landscapes and the 50mm for close shots. As we began our post-breakfast walk I noticed something brown to the west of us visible just above the grass line. I thought perhaps Willa had gotten around us somehow, but when I looked down, there she was, sniffing the ground.
The brown thing moved slightly. Coyote. Its head came up, then back down. It was...dining on something. If I'd had the distance lens, I might've been able to get a quick, zoomed shot. As it was, my lenses were useless. The coyote stared, measuring us and the threat we might pose. Then it trotted off, relaxed, unhurried. It paused once to look back again and then it was gone and lost among the trees.
