The brief raging of yesterday afternoon slid peacefully into a cooler, calm, and clear evening - one that the dogs and I enjoyed before retiring to our respective beds. The refreshed and drier air did not last for long, however. The morning dawned muggy and close, the afternoon breezeless and hot. So we are closed up inside, staying comfortable any way we can: a small fan, a cold drink. The dogs lie with their bellies pressed onto the cool concrete of the garage. We will emerge, like blinking crepusculars from shadowy dens, as soon as the sun has melted below the trees.
