How nice it was to be woken by the sound of a gentle rain last night. The morning was a deep gray with a mix of rain-swollen behemoths and thready clouds that slowly broke apart as they moved across the sky. Looking north and east, long trails of virga shimmered like a crystal curtain, glowing pink as the sun came up behind a watercolor wash of orange and fushia.
Rain drops pattered our heads and peppered the smooth surface of the western pond as we made our way back home from our walk. As I passed the new pond, I heard an indignant squawking and saw a pure white egret laboriously raise itself from the shore and resettle high in a tree.
Right now I can hear thunder. An angry orange, red, and green blob of weather is making its way across the radar.
