As we bid farewell to July and welcome August, the sunflowers have come to their full glory. Not just in our garden (where the bumblebees are delirious). but all along the roads and brightly dotted across unshorn fields. On a drive through the countryside today, we saw an abundance of yellow. Tall stalks bending under the weight of their seed-laden flowers, short stubby stalks with 4 or 5 or 6 small blossoms competing for space, shy blooms barely peeking above the grass, but faithfully following the sun's path nevertheless.
